A Hymn For The Lord's Day: Like a River Glorious

LIKE A RIVER GLOURIOUS

Frances R Havergal 1836-1879

Like a river glourious is God's perfect peace,
Over all victorious in its bright increase;
Perfect, yet it floweth fuller ev'ry day,
Perfect yet it groweth deeper all the way.

Stayed upon Jehovah, hears are fully blest-
Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Hidden in the hollow of His blessed hand,
Never foe can follow, never traitor stand;
Not a surge of worry, not a shade of care,
Not a blast of hurry touch the spirit there.

Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest-
Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Ev'ry joy or trial falleth from above,
Traced upon our dial by the Sun of Love;
We may trust Him fully all for us to do-
They who trust Him wholly find Him wholly true.

Stayed upon Jehovah, hearts are fully blest-
Finding, as He promised, perfect peace and rest.

Dear Sharon,
Thank you for sharing this beautiful hymn on the Lord's day! I had not heard this hymn before. I love one of her other hymns, Take My Life, and Let It Be.

I read in one of our books, Hymns for a Kid's Heart Volume 1, that not only was Frances gifted with musical talent, but that she was captivating and delightful! People loved to be around her, it was the love of Jesus being poured over them by her. She wrote in one of her journals that she prayed for everyone around her, and the people she prayed for never knew she was asking God to bless them! I am so inspired by her, to pray for others, asking the Lord to bless them!
Thank you for all these beautiful hymns you share!
